Step into a world where technology brings infrastructure to life—where a virtual substation breathes, responds, and evolves in real time.

This is not science fiction, but a fully interactive and photorealistic digital twin developed using Unreal Engine 5. The project replicates a 220kV substation in a highly realistic setting, surrounded by open plains, forest edges, and scattered rural landscapes. With smooth camera transitions and intuitive controls, users can explore every detail, from outdoor equipment and high-voltage switchgear to indoor control rooms and technical cabinets.

The system enables virtual walkthroughs, allowing users to navigate indoor spaces, inspect electrical panels up close, and switch between photorealistic rendering and a laser-scan-inspired monochrome view for structural clarity.

Integrated real-time monitoring brings live data directly into the digital environment. Users can initiate full inspections in either first- or third-person view, with contextual overlays showing equipment status, maintenance history, technical parameters, and responsible personnel.

A dedicated equipment management module presents exploded views of key devices, revealing detailed information down to the component level—manufacturer, model, ratings, and factory records—all interactively displayed within the 3D interface.

The digital twin also responds dynamically to environmental conditions. Changes in weather, lighting, or time of day are reflected instantly, supporting simulation use cases like scenario planning and safety drills.

Beyond the visual fidelity lies the real value: a living system that empowers organizations to reduce operational costs, enhance efficiency, and maintain centralized control. From early warnings to remote inspections, the digital twin transforms infrastructure management by bridging the gap between physical systems and intelligent digital oversight.

This project showcases STA’s end-to-end capabilities in digital twin development—from 3D environment design and interface development to real-time data integration and simulation logic. Tailored to operational needs, the solution demonstrates how complex infrastructure can be visualized, managed, and optimized through immersive digital technology.
